DevOps. What is it and how can it help your organisation?
Gartner predicted that from 2016 DevOps would establish itself as a mainstream discipline and would be adopted by 25% of the Global 2000 organisations and therefore no longer just be considered a buzz word. They were right! In fact it has gone beyond the predicted figures. The DevOps movement has continued to grow, and has become one of the most important areas within our industry.
So what is DevOps and importantly what benefits does it provide?
DevOps is closely related to the iterative and efficient techniques used in agile and lean methodologies and allows organisations to develop and deploy services and software whilst improving collaboration and cooperation between development and other operational IT functions.
The modern competitive landscape for business means that companies need to work faster, deliver more frequently and continually adapt and experiment with their services and products to meet consumer demand. When implemented correctly DevOps can empower companies to do this by shortening their development cycles, responding innovatively to customer demand and delivering their services more efficiently.
People are a vital component to a DevOps programme. Companies need teams who are ready to work in a high paced, continuous delivery environment and who are also willing to collaborate in cross functional teams rather than working in traditional silos.
The value therefore appears to be clear. By adopting DevOps principles companies are able to improve their delivery of IT solutions and services to the business that in turn also ensures that solutions are of a greater quality, more reliable and meet their customer and industry demands.
At IJYI our experts have a proven track record of supporting our partners to successfully adopt DevOps methodologies that have enabled them to significantly reduce deploy times whilst also delivering improved stability, reliability and security.
